Progress: Welcome to ... *drum roll* *cymbal crash* BLOG POST #6 !! After reviewing basic skills in my previous blog posts, I decided to take a step forward this time and start a new lesson. To progress in my guitar learning journey, I went on YouTube once again and continued on to the next guitar lesson.

Playing the major scale involves a step pattern that consists of whole steps and half steps. The sequence playing the major scale would be, whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, then half step. With this pattern in mind, it is possible to play the major scale starting from any fret on the guitar. The instructor also explained how to play the major scale in first position, meaning that the first finger is on the first fret. I admit, it took me a while to process and apply what the instructor was teaching. A con of learning an instrument through watching online videos would be not being able to see certain angles. As the instructor was explaining how to play the major scale in first position, i was lost in a state of confusion, but after a while, i finally understood how to imitate what the instructor was doing.

Reflection:

During this lesson, frustration arose many times. I was frustrated at myself for not being able to comprehend such an easy lesson and for messing up frequently on what seemed so simple. As you can see in the video, my fingers ended up on the wrong frets and hit a multitude of wrong notes. From this trial, I also noticed that my fingers are still very stiff and awkward when moving along the fret. I've experienced so much frustration by playing a major scale ascending up and haven't even completed it by playing it descending. My progress so far is giving me a little anxiety because in a few months, I'll have to play a full song for all my classmates. my skills have been slacking but with more practice, I'll be able to improve my coordination and chord memorization. With this practice, I will be able to treat my classmates with a worthwhile performance, so tune in next time for my step towards this goal !!
