Progress:
final post of the semester woohoo!! for my final blog post, i will finally learn how to tune the guitar!! i chose to learn this from the new instructor i found in the suggestions column on YouTube. this instructor gets straight to the point and zooms in on the guitar, which makes it easier to follow his lesson. since i don't have a physical guitar tuner, i downloaded an app called GuitarTuna because it was free. from this lesson, i learned that turning the tuning pegs anticlockwise increases the pitch while turning the pegs clockwise lowered the pitch of the guitar.
Reflection:
I've put this important factor for a very long time because i was scared of something going wrong while tuning. Since this guitar belongs to my good friend, i didn't want to risk possibly snapping any of his guitar strings. however, i had to overcome that fear because intonation is crucial in tone quality of all instruments. tuning on the guitar was pretty easy. For me, tuning on string instruments in general is relatively easier than tuning on wind instruments. when i tune my flute, i have to bend the pitch by adjusting my embouchure and tightening the corners of my lips. based on my knowledge of wind instruments, i believe that tuning wind instruments more factors to pay attention to. the pitch of string instruments and wind instruments are both affected by temperature. the differences begin with the fact that the pitch of wind instruments can be manipulated just by air stream. when string musicians tune their instruments, they could check their pitch change on the tuner and adjust their instruments accordingly to the pitch as they see it. wind musicians however, need to adjust the pitch of their instruments little by little and recheck the pitch of their instrument each time they make adjustments because they can't physically adjust their tuning slides as they play their tuning note. therefore, tuning the guitar was easier for me than tuning my flute.
This is my last blog post for the semester, but i haven't made enough progress. but on the bright side, i have around a month to improve and hopefully be able to play a pleasant tune for the class!! thank you for following me on this journey and more tolerating the unpleasant sounds I've made from the guitar!!!
