Progress:
welcome back to my blog!! I left off on lesson 5, but i decided skip to lesson 9 since the lessons were just more practice songs of scale application. in this YouTube lesson, the instructor touched upon "power Chords". these chords are technically not full chords because they are only made up of two notes: the root note and the 5th interval of the root note. this video however, was very confusing and i was not able to keep up with what the instructor was trying to explain.
in this process, I came across another video that had millions of views compared to this instructor. in this video, the instructor focused on playing the e major and a major chord. he also briefly went over a few common mistakes beginners make when they learn how to play the guitar from online videos.
Reflection:
After finding the second YouTube video, i felt a slight moment of regret for not switching instructors sooner. i liked the amount of practice songs that the first instructor gave in his lessons, however i should've turned to other videos rather than just learning from this one instructor. his pace was relatively slow and didn't touch upon chords until the 9th lesson video. the other instructor i came across today had clearer videos and his explanations were much simpler. he also gave me a vital tip in helping me fix my bad habits regarding finger flexibility and chord transitions. he said how beginning guitarists pressed on the strings using too much of their finger. in order to achieve a good tone quality, only the very tip of the finger should be pressed on the strings. this experience made me realize i should've referred to more tutorial videos with different instructors so that i could speed up my progress. i still appreciate the practice i got from the main instructor i learned from, but my progress was too slow.
