Progress:

Welcome back!! It is time for blog post #8!! For this blog post, I decided to do something a little special. For the past few months, I've acquired my knowledge on playing guitar by watching YouTube tutorials. This time, I decided to get some help from my good friend, Gigi Luu. For this lesson, Gigi wanted to teach me a song we both love, Love scenario by Ikon. With a guitar on her lap and laptop in front of her face, gigi looked up the chords to demonstrate how the song would sound on guitar.

Expectations:

To play this song, it only required a total of 4 chords: c, d, B minor, and e minor. since I did not know how to play those chords, gigi placed my fingers on every string for each chord. She would then tell me to strum and if the chord sounded strange, she would check each of my fingers and fix their positions. Unfortunately, I was still not able to play the song in the end, but i thank gigi with her patience and persistence to help me!!

Reflection:

Of course, this experience was significantly different compared to my other guitar lessons. The fact that I was able to learn with an instructor that was physically there allowed me to reflect on my bad habits and fix them immediately. gigi gave me immediate feedback and gave me advice that accommodated my own flaws. She corrected my positions on the spot and reminded me of the chords i forgot. Despite the song only requiring 4 chords, it was still difficult for me to remember what each chord was. during this experience, my bad habit of covering unnecessary strings was greatly exposed. many times when i was asked to strum the chord, the chord sounded weird because my fingers were to bent which covered other strings. This was not only uncomfortable, but also very frustrating as gigi continuously had to find the error in the correct position she placed my fingers in. This made me feel bad for gigi because the source of the problem wasn't her teaching, but it was because of my bad habit. the flaw in my hand coordination in flexibility has been my main struggle. in the few months i have left, my priorities in guitar learning will be to fix this bad habit.
